HIGHLIGHTS OF LFW 2016

Fashion weeks are coming to an end. We've just had an explosion of inspiration from Paris and London but it'll soon be time to say goodbye. Although I'm already counting down the days until the next LFW I am very excited to see what this year will bring. So far I've seen masses of new, collaborative and contemporary trends that are already starting to sneak their way into the highstreet stores. Now that all of the fashion week chaos has cleared I will share with you my highlights of street style this LFW Febuary 2016.

TOPSHOP UNIQUE HAIR & MAKE UP

Topshop Unique was definitely the best show that I attended. I was welcomed by Kate Phelan and given a brief tour of the show space as soon as I arrived. The energetic atmosphere of the run throughs and in the hair and make up section was contagious. Everybody was rushing around with hangers, hairspray and clipboards. There was this raw sense of determination and togetherness that I just didn't get a feel of anywhere else. I was lucky enough to have met Nick Knight and Anna Wintour whilst they were waiting for the show to begin. Nick was shooting the Topshop Instagram feed all the way through the day. I was truly an amazing experience to watch him work and learn a few tips and tricks from the master himself. Karlie, Pharrell and Alesha also attended. I managed to get a few minutes will Alesha and Pharrell but was then in a rush to slot into the press pit in time for the show. I managed to squeeze in just in time however this meant that I missed Karlie's arrival.

REJINA PYO'S PRESENTATION

On the last day of LFW Rejina Pyo kept the good vibes flowing with her incredibly simplistic yet captivating new collection. There was a definite theme. The combination of metallics and woollens created an almost 80s styled look with a dash of inspiration from the space race perhaps. Interestingly enough this created a contemporary feel to entire collection! When I spoke to Rejina she told me that her inspiration comes from asian cultures and western modern art. I think this is why the garments were so strikingly bold and unique. Rejina herself was an absolute pleasure to be around.

NICK KNIGHT

Nick was and will always be an influentual figure in my life. I was fortunate enough to chat with him at the Topshop Unique show in the Tate Britain this LFW. At the time he was shooting for Topshop's Instagram feed for the show and I had just finnished in the hair and make up section so I tagged along into the studio space. It was crowded up until I got into the corners off space where he was shooting. However, the busy atmosphere eventually leaked in as the models started to line up for the first run through. This meant that I wasn't able to speak to Nick for too long but at least I was able to watch him work and learn a few tips off the master himself!

ASPINAL OF LONDON PRESENTATION

Located on Brook Street was the elegent ballroom of Claridge's. This was were the AW16 collection of Aspinal of London was held. When I arrived I was greeted with champagne and a cookie with their logo iced onto the top. The whole presentation was just pure class, it was absolutely fabulous! Even the invitation was beautifully made; there was golden typography printed on pink card with a tiny pearl in the center. I understand that the collection was for grown women however the room was littered with unicorn illustrations and prints. What's not to like? No one can argue against unicorns and champagne!

STREET STYLE

The peacocks at LFW can often get rather annoying when you're the one behind the lens. However, whenever I had a spare few minutes I found myself automatically reaching for my camera. There were some incredibly stylish people this LFW that were not just outside the shows but also walking to work, gym or going out for a bite to eat. A lot of photographers criticize London for hosting the worst fashion weeks in terms of trends but I didn't have any problem finding people who were more than happy to discuss their outfits with me. A common trend I noticed this LFW is the flat age. Age didn't seem to be an issue when it came to dressing up or down. I saw many outfits in different variations on a diverse range of age groups. For example, performance sportswear such as trainers are often associated with the older generation when worn with comfortable trousers however this has now been taken further by the younger generations. Two years ago it would have seemed ridiculous to choose comfort over couture at an event like LFW but it has now trended into something so much more! Youthful looks started to draw inspiration from older generations again since the MOM jeans became a trend. I find it fasinating to follow and hope to blog on the trend soon.
