WORKWEAR PICKS
With all of the opportunities coming my way I thought it was time to share some of my workwear outfits! I start my first internship on the 20th of June so keep a look out for those Vlogs. I cannot wait to get started, I'm working for InStyle Magazine first and then The Telegraph Fashion Magazine after. The Vlogs will be reblogged on this blog and posted on Youtube. The Youtube username I will be using is @shawfashionblog.
These aren't the only outfits I will be bringing to London with me, it's a random selection from the ones I have packed. A lot of people think that to work in fashion you have to be in fashion and know every trend out there... fashion institutions aren't all like in The Devil Wear Prada. There's a difference between being in fashion and being stylish. As long as you fit the dress code and look presentable then there's nothing to worry about!

Vintage Striped Cotton Shirt | New Look Camel Flannel Culottes | Kurt Geiger Carvela Heels | Boohoo Black Retro Round Sunglasses

This is a bit of a classic weekender look. Striped shirts are trending at the moment due to the popular 70's style comeback. I thought I'd incorporate pin stripes into at least one of my workwear outfits as not only is it flattering for my body shape (pear) but it also gives this look an adventurous yet calming edge. Camel is quite a neutral tone as well as the off white of the shirt. The stripes draw you in and show character. Pin stripes are definitely a must-have for this season!

Breckenridge Print Shirt | River Island Black Soft Tie Waist Tapered Trousers | Kurt Geiger Carvela Heels | New Look Tortoise Shell Sunglasses

Tapered trousers are always great for bringing in the waist when wearing a light unfitted shirt. I've used quite dark autumn tones here just to create a basic but classic office style. Wearing your hair up whilst wearing trousers and heels is known to give the appearance of an upright posture. This is also the case is you wear midi pencil skirts with heals.

River Island Black Soft Tie Waist Tapered Trousers | Tu High Neck Peacock Shirt | White Air Max Thea Trainers

There is nothing like a good quality pair of tapered trousers at work! I chose to buy high waisted tie up ones in order to draw focus away from the hips and towards the waist. If you have a similar body shape to me (pear) then tapered trousers are definitely worth investing in. These tapered trousers are £35 from River Island and I nearly convinced myself to but the charcoal pair too. They're comfortable, smart and chic. Get yourself a pair! Honestly, they're fab.
The trousers are slightly cropped at the bottom so to balance it out I used a high neck shirt. I always think that it helps proportionately when styling if you take away material (cropped trousers) then you should use another garment to bring it back somewhere else (high neck). The patterning on the shirt is busy which is why I only styled myself in block colours from the hips down. If you over crowd an outfit with too many colours or patterns then it most likely won't look professional or smart enough to wear to work.

Teenflo Split Flared Trousers | Topshop Green High Neck Top | White Air Max Thea Trainers

I used block colours to balance the bold print of the interior of the trousers. Although the split reveals a small part of the silky fabric inside I thought it was important to match the colours of the print in the top half of my outfit. The darker tone of green in the top makes the outfit as a whole come together as the black and the bold tones are met with this middle deep green.
The trousers are extremely comfortable and light to move around in. It's always important to have fun with styling and the usual splits make the outfit feel exciting to wear! The loudness of the patterning and the richness of the deep block colours create a great balance. This outfit can be worn with heels or trainers, take your pick!

Seasalt Denim Button Shirt | Topshop High Waisted Black Denim Jeans | New Look White Cut Out Heels

Yes, the famous no-go double denim is being used by a fashion blogger! Even though it is a well known rule of styling to never pair denim together I rather like it! In fact, it's good to brake the rules from time to time. Double denim has been worn well and awfully by many icons and celebrities in the past. I thought I'd give it a go for London.
This is an informal workwear outfit due to the amount of denim I've used. However, all it takes is a tiny touch of class and you have yourself an outfit for work. I've used my heals to bring in that little bit extra but you can use hats, jewellery, scarves, blazers, etc. If you're going to follow my tip and planning on going out and getting some heals, make sure you choose some that aren't going to get uncomfortable after a while. A good way to brake into a pair of heels before wearing them to work is to wear them around the house. If you're struggling to walk normally then check your posture and think about whether the heel is too high. Many people struggle to walk in heels don't worry! It takes some practice.

Emanuel Peach Stitch Shirt | River Island Black Soft Tie Waist Tapered Trousers | White Nike Air Max Thea Trainers

With this outfit, you can wear you hair up or down as the collar is structural and angular which highlights the angles of your face. My peach shirt always comes with me on a trip like this. The stitching resembles pin stripes which is perfect for this season. The main reason I chose to pack this shirt is because the tapered trousers can be paired with multiple tops and shirts. This just happens to be an essential for my personal workwear wardrobe.
