SPORTY STREET STYLE

Sportswear is a contemporary macro trend. In other words, sporty chic has been a modern trend for over a year and will continue to grow in popularity. Artists have used and adapted the once 90s grunge into a modern yet casual style that can be worn as street wear or party wear.

Beyoncé - Ivy Park

Bey has released a brand new line of sportswear inspired by her love of running. As a young woman Beyonce started running to escape her troubles. Her father encouraged her to run every time she felt she needed to channel frustration into something productive and rewarding. Believe it or not this curvaceous queen also found herself worrying about her body when she was a young woman. In her promo vid she asked "where's your park" after explaining that the "park is a state of mind". She has used her old running park as inspiration for the collection, Ivy Park.

Rihanna - Puma

Lady Street herself started to design for Puma early last year. Rihanna has found a way to combine her love for shape obscurity and street style through her latest collection. She commented on her latest collection release explaining how she used her background and personal style as inspiration. Puma hosted Rihanna's latest collection at New York Fashion Week AW16 this February. If you haven't checked it out yet then be sure to click the link at the bottom of this post! It was absolutely fantastic.

Kanye West - Yeezy

Yet another talent from the music industry has influenced sportswear as streetwear. A lot of people don't appreciate Kanye's rapping lyrics but it's hard not to appreciate his fashion design. He's a genius. Yeezy is a brand he has built with Adidas. His AW15 collection springs to mind when I think about grunge and shabby-chic sportswear as his inspiration developed from the slave trade. Kanye finds his cultural background inspirational however he doesn't understand why the world has 'forgotten' what happened. All of his collections are designed and displayed around this cultural significance. Although Adidas has supported his work the collections aren't fully developed around sportswear. This is why the trend is intriguing. The trend is pulling both street youth culture and sportswear together.
